What is ProZyme?
ProZyme is an all-natural, plant-derived combination of four digestive enzymes in a pleasant-tasting powder form. This proprietary blend of enzymes aids in the absorption of protein, carbohydrates, fatty acids and fiber found in pet foods.

What does ProZyme do?
The four enzymes in ProZyme work together to aid digestion: alpha-amylase and protease work by breaking down carbohydrates and proteins into smaller molecules that cells can absorb. Cellulase helps break down plant fibers and lipase helps break down fatty acids. This activity inside the body helps pets get the most out of the food they consume.

Why should I use ProZyme?
Use ProZyme as a food supplement to enhance the caloric and nutritional efficiency of food. ProZyme can be especially helpful for senior pets which often do not produce adequate amounts of digestive enzymes on their own. Use ProZyme to help relieve the following conditions:

How much ProZyme do I give my pet?
Just ¼ teaspoon per cup of food is all it takes for great results. To begin, you can use ¼ teaspoon or if you have concerns about starting with the full amount, start with 1/8 teaspoon and work your way up to the full serving. For senior pets, you can increase the serving to ½ teaspoon per cup of food.

How should I store ProZyme?
For best results, store in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate.

Is there an expiration date on ProZyme?
No.  If the product is stored properly, it should last several years. The numbers that are on the bottle are the manufacturing date and the time of day it was manufactured.  For example, if the numbers on the bottle are 9105   10:15  it means that the product was manufactured on the 105th day of 2009 at 10:15.

What are the ingredients in ProZyme Original?
Lactose (milk sugar manufactured from fresh whey), Aspergillus oryzae (alpha-amylase) fermentation product dehydrated, Aspergillus niger (lipase and cellulase) fermentation product dehydrated and Bromelain derived from ananas comosus (protease) dehydrated.

What are the ingredients in ProZyme Plus?
Rice starch, Aspergillus oryzae (alpha-amylase) fermentation product dehydrated, Aspergillus niger (lipase and cellulase) fermentation product dehydrated and Bromelain derived from ananas comosus (protease) dehydrated.

What are the ingredients in ProZyme Equine?
Stabilized rice bran, alfalfa meal dehydrated, Aspergillus oryzae (alpha-amylase) fermentation product dehydrated, Aspergillus niger (lipase and cellulase) fermentation product dehydrated and Bromelain derived from ananas comosus (protease) dehydrated.

Is Aspergillus niger dangerous for my pet?  I thought that Aspergillus was a fungus that makes you sick?
The strain of Aspergillus that you are thinking of is Aspergillus flavus. ProZyme contains Aspergillus niger, which is commonly used in many products and has no harmful affects to people or animals.

The bottle has a different looking label, red.  Has the formula changed?
No. We redesigned the look of the label, but the formula did not change.

The new label says it contains milk sugar manufactured from fresh whey and the old label said lactose. Has the formula changed?
ProZyme Original Formula has not changed. We continue to provide quality products. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) guidlines require us to identify our source of lactose, milk sugar manufactured from fresh whey, and list it on the label as such.

What do the units of measure on the label mean?
Each gram of ProZyme provides the enzyme activity of alpha-amylase (2000 SKB), lipase (200 U), cellulase (50 CU) and protease (8GDU). These terms refer to methods of measuring the enzyme activity derived from its source material. ProZyme is formulated from human grade materials with high levels of enzyme activity.

Will ProZyme interfere with other medications or supplements?
No, ProZyme will not interfere with medications and since it helps improve nutrient absorption, it can actually complement other supplements.

When will I see results?
Veterinarians and pet owners report improvement from one to eight weeks after beginning consistent use (serving with each meal).

Once I have observed desired results, do I need to keep using ProZyme?
Yes. Most foods will not contain adequate enzymes because the heat used in manufacturing destroys them. Also, enzyme production in the body drops off the older an animal becomes. For best results, continue to feed ProZyme for the life of your pet.

Should I reduce the amount of food I feed my pet after he starts taking ProZyme?
Customers’ experience indicates that less food may be needed to maintain pets’ weight. If the goal is for the animal to gain weight, do not cut back on the amount of food given.

I’d like to avoid feeding my pet anything that contains dairy – do you have a product that suits my needs?
ProZyme Plus is a lactose-free formulation designed for pets with a low tolerance for lactose or for pets adhering to a vegan diet.

Do you have anything for large animals?
ProZyme Equine formula is designed for horses and even has alfalfa powder to provide more flavor appeal.

How do you compare the units of an animal-based enzyme with those of a plant-based enzyme?
Unfortunately the base of the products is completely different and there is no good way to compare them.  The units for an animal-based enzyme are typically in USP units.

My dog has been on an animal-based enzyme.  Can I just switch to ProZyme? 
Please consult your veterinarian. Switching your pet from an animal-based to a plant-based enzyme could cause issues and you need to discuss the change with a veterinarian.

Can humans take ProZyme or ProZyme Plus?
These products are labeled for animals. For humans we offer TymeZyme.

What is the difference between Prozyme Plus and Tyme Zyme?
ProZyme Plus is labeled for animals and Tyme Zyme is labeled for humans.  Tyme Zyme has an additional enzyme, lactase, to help digest lactose.

Should I use hot water or gravy with ProZyme?
No. Hot liquids will destroy the enzymes in Prozyme.  You can use warm water, but not hot water.

I have been told that I should pour warm water over the food and ProZyme and let the mixture sit for 15-20 minutes before I give it to my pet. Is this correct?
Adding water or liquids to the food activates the enzymes. For pets that have difficulty chewing or have lost their teeth, adding water and letting the food sit for 10-15 minutes before serving is ideal. This is also beneficial to older pets.

Can you mix food with Prozyme and freeze for use later?
If feeding raw diets that need to be frozen, pre-freeze the portion and then add the ProZyme to the portion. Any amount of water will activate the enzymes. While thawing the portion, be sure to put the portion in your refrigerator until ready to serve.
